UGC Certified Field Technicians

Cattle Producers

If you want to have your cattle scanned so the data can be included in breed association genetic evaluations, you need to call a UGC certified field technician.  Once scanned, the field technician will submit the images to a certified lab technician* who will interpret the images and submit the data to your breed association(s) on your behalf.

Because of equipment and software differences, not all technicians have the ability to submit images to all labs.  If you have a specific lab that you want your images to go to, make sure you verify that the field technician has the ability to send images to your lab of choice prior to him/her coming to your operation.  If you do not have a specific lab in mind, the field technician can help you decide on a lab to interpret your images.

UGC Certified Technicians

UGC certifies two types of technicians:  1) field technicians who collect ultrasound images on live animals, and 2) lab technicians who interpret ultrasound images using sophisticated computer software.  Once certified, a technician is certified for a period of two years at a time.

UGC Certified Lab Technicians

Once a field technician has collected images on your cattle, the images are submitted to a certified lab technician* for interpretation.

If the images are going to an accredited UGC lab, there is no need to choose a specific lab technician.  Once submitted to a lab, the lab will assign a certified technician to interpret your images.

Text Box: * Although some certified lab technicians work independently of an accredited lab, most breeds require images to be interpreted by certified lab technicians employed by an accredited lab. It’s always a good idea to check with your breed prior to arranging scanning so that you are aware of the specific requirements of your breed.
